About Me
Hello, my name is Mel. I reside in the charming town of Lititz, Pennsylvania, where I live independently in my own home. Life presented me with a significant challenge 34 years ago when I became a quadriplegic, but, with much support, I've navigated its complexities with determination and resilience. Channeling my passion for technology, I've carved out a successful career as a software engineer and, despite my physical limitations, I've always believed in the power of the mind and the endless possibilities it holds.
My Caregivers
My journey over the years has only been made possible by the unwavering support of my caregivers. Their dedication and compassion has enabled me to live independently and to pursue a successful career. The trust and bond I share with them remind me daily of the strength found in collective effort and the transformative power of support.
Rather than take my word for it, please read what they have to say below.
Testimonials
Denise U, 11 years of Caregiving
I was one of Mel’s helpers many years ago, I am and will always be amazed at his patience, kindness, flexibility in all that I did to help him. He even taught me some computer skills as well. He allowed me to be flexible because at the time I was a single mom with children and the schedule was perfect. He truly is an amazing person to work with!
SHERRY S, 11 years of caregiving And counting
I have been a caregiver for Mel for many years, he has been more like family rather than an employer. Mel is a very caring and compassionate person that treats caregiver more like family rather than employees. Given that he is a quadriplegic he doesn't let that stand in his way of being a successful entrepreneur.
Melissa M, 13 years of caregiving And counting
I have been working for Mel for 13 years and I have enjoyed experiencing life with him. Mel is a very hard working, kind, compassionate and patient man. I admire his intelligence, drive and determination. It has been an honor to be of service to him and to be able to call him my forever friend.
More to come, this site is brand-new...
Christina L, 4 YEARS OF Caregiving
Working for Mel was one of the best decisions I ever made. I've had the pleasure of knowing Mel for almost 5 years. Mel is a great client to work for, and I'm fortunate now to call him a friend. He listened to my college lectures and practice assessments as I went to school for my RN and was very encouraging to me to succeed.
My Needs
I have three different shifts per day, seven days per week, morning, afternoon and bedtime hours. During this time, you'll be responsible for the various aspects assisting with daily living activities.
Mornings
Starting at 7 AM on weekdays and 7:30 AM on weekends for a 4-6 hour shift depending on the day. The primary responsibilities encompass comprehensive personal care, including Feeding, bathing, dressing, transferring into a wheelchair (manually or with mechanical lift), and grooming (such as caring for teeth, hair, etc.).
Afternoons
The least "hands-on" shift, you would typically start between 3 and 4 PM for 2-hours with your typical responsibilities including light housekeeping, meal preparation, feeding, running occasional errands, and very rarely driving me to appointments. Minimal personal care is required and no prior experience necessary.
Evenings (Bedtime)
With a start time between 9 and 9:30 PM. for a 2-hour shift you would be responsible for getting me ready for bed, transferring me into bed, positioning me for the night, giving medications, etc. Experience preferred, but not necessary.
